Setting a New Standard in Healthcare IT with Microsoft Azure
Overview
IT&T worked with Ingram Micro to modernise the infrastructure supporting critical healthcare applications, including Best Practice and Medical Director. Using Microsoft Azure, Azure Virtual Desktop and Microsoft 365, the team developed a repeatable cloud migration model designed to strengthen security, improve accessibility and minimise disruption to patient care. Close to 100 healthcare clients are now benefiting from the solution.
The Challenge
Healthcare providers depended on locally hosted servers to run patient-record and operational applications. These environments lacked the advanced security and scalability available through the cloud, while rising cyber threats and changing privacy requirements increased the risk. Practices were also hesitant to move from one-off, capital-intensive infrastructure to a subscription-based model and were concerned that migration could interrupt daily workflows and patient care. The key business and technology challenges included:

The Solution
IT&T and Ingram Micro developed an Azure-based solution centred on Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD). Ingram Micro’s OneClick AVD template automatically builds, configures and deploys the required technology resources, helping IT&T reduce manual work and deployment time while delivering a consistent and repeatable environment for each healthcare customer. The solution combines Microsoft 365 and Azure security capabilities with managed support, client training and change management. The solution included:
- Azure Virtual Desktop deployed through Ingram Micro’s OneClick AVD template
- Microsoft 365 security, including Advanced Threat Protection, Data Loss Prevention, Defender for Office 365 and Conditional Access
- Azure Security Centre and Azure Sentinel for centralised security, threat detection and automated response
- Zero-trust controls, multi-factor authentication, geo-blocking and 24/7 monitoring and incident response
The Outcome
Healthcare teams can now access their applications and data securely from different consulting rooms or from home when required, without compromising continuity of care. The standardised deployment model improved consistency and scalability while reducing the manual effort and time involved in each rollout. The cloud foundation also gives providers the security and compliance baseline needed to explore practical AI tools, including Microsoft Copilot and AI-powered speech-to-text. The solution delivered:
